Wimbledon Embraces Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing replay technology.

Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Competitors will gain the right to question particular decisions made by the official, following the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This move follows just a season following the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference end of a rally.

Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can initiate.

A Recent Example

A recent example took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.

Wider Implementation

This technology aren't new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Other Changes

A further innovation at The Championships this year involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.

In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
